Commissioner David Moyer makes his first appearance on this page and he looks pretty grumpy. Those who look really close will see the name "Strauss" on a sign on the lower panel. The sign represents a business owned by the corrupt Strauss family, the very same family Emilio Strauss (the man killed and whose corpse is discovered in the previous pages) belongs to. If you look carefully at city scapes throughout the series, you'll spot the Strauss name in many storefronts/buildings. This was done to show just how enmeshed in the metropolis the Strauss family is.

Allen Stone lives in "Zenith, on the east side of the metropolis". As mentioned before, one of my primary inspirations was Fritz Lang's superb movie "Metropolis" (1926) as well as Greek mythology. In this case, the metropolis consists of two cities, Zenith and Tartarus. Zenith is heaven, Tartarus is hell.

But as can be seen, Tartarus doesn't look all that much worse than Zenith. What I was going for was the idea that heaven and hell had battled each other to a standstill. In this present time, each side sits exhausted and spent, unable to lift a finger against each other. The war had left each side looking as battered as the other.

As with many of Kissee's "cityscapes", I'm totally blown over by his pencils here. I only hope my colors haven't ruined the page!
